Being a Room Parent
by Erika Afeman-Drew PTA Room Parent Committee Chair
As the Room Parent Committee Chair, I’m excited to share my enthusiasm and admiration for the role of room parent with all of Drew's classrooms. Since my children have started at Drew, I’ve been the room parent for their classes.
As a teacher, the support and assistance of a room parent is invaluable! Teachers have limited time to organize and prepare materials outside of school hours, even making copies or following up on emails gets lost in preparing for the next day. Room parents can provide an extra set of hands to free up some time so that teachers can take care of the more important tasks of planning meaningful lessons, communicating with parents, and teachering our children!
Each teacher uses his/her room parent differently, my goal is to make sure room parents are truly seen as a support that teachers can call on for help often.
